Lone worker safety

Do you employ people who work alone at your premises? If so, have you considered the potential risks posed to both their safety and your business?

Research shows that lone or late night workers are placed at a greater risk of crime, as an easy target for anyone considering breaking in to the workplace. With nobody around to offer backup - particularly at night - your goods, equipment and any cash stored on site are at risk of being damaged or stolen, as well as putting the safety of your employees in jeopardy.

So, with all that to consider, it is no surprise that the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) encourages business owners and managers to be cautious when employing lone workers, and weigh up all the possible issues and eventualities which may arise – for example, a medical emergency or burglary.

With that thought in mind, the HSE has released some valuable advice to keep lone workers healthy and safe. ‘Working Alone: Health and safety guidance on the risks of lone working’ aims to help employers understand what they need to do to comply with their legal duties towards lone workers under:

  • the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974
  • the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999

Following the guidelines is not compulsory, but employers are legally responsible for the health, safety and welfare at work of all their workers – even those who are employed on a contract or self-employed basis. So, the protection of lone workers is certainly not something which should be taken lightly.

As a leading security company in Hampshire and Wiltshire, we recognise the pressure this places on any respectable employer – after all, it’s not always economic or viable to have more than one member of staff present at all times, despite the threats this imposes.

Our solution for Lone Worker Security aims to provide sufficient protection for your business and staff, deterring criminals with the presence of uniformed officers who are fully trained and experienced to deal with any situation which may arise. We manage to do all this whilst also providing a cost effective service. In addition, Venture officers can also deal with the management of locks and unlocks for complete peace of mind – for you, and your staff.

So, by all means, we’d recommend that you have a read of the above guidelines, but if you have any concerns at all about your lone workers, or your responsibility towards their safety, please give us a call to see how we can help.
