What are your main responsibilities?
One of my main responsibilities is helping to organise mobile patrol officers and cover for assignments, as well as supporting the team with any other tasks as required. My other duties include helping to set up new contracts, ensuring they are fulfilled and preparing assignment instructions. Overall, I aim to ensure that a quality service is delivered, and clients are happy.
What special training have you had?
I have completed door supervisor training, a first aid course, an enhanced CRB check and risk assessment training. I am currently undertaking the Essential Security Practices qualification.
What do you most enjoy about your job?
The variety. I am involved in many different elements of the business and the wide variety of assignments we cover.
At Venture, I’m working with a great bunch of people and there’s fantastic camaraderie. I get to work with a range of different people, meeting individuals from all walks of life and it’s a very social environment. It’s a huge contrast to my former life in engineering, where I was stuck in an office and spent a lot of my time in basements, which was incredibly boring.
What qualities do you think it takes to work in security?
You must have patience and a thick skin. You also need to have the ability to listen and understand another person’s point of view. As situations are constantly changing, you need to be able to use your initiative, to assess and react appropriately.
What is it like working for Venture?
Good. I had just picked up a load of qualifications in engineering but decided that I didn’t want to continue down that path. It was a big risk jumping to Venture, but it turned out to be a great decision.
At Venture you always have support and backup behind you, plus solid training and regular refresher courses, to enable you to complete your role to the best of your ability. The quality of assignment instructions also makes a difference.
It’s a great company to work for and there are no signs of that changing. You’re always paid on time and it’s always right, which can be a rare thing to find in this sector. I am very happy here.
