My first events season with Venture Security

2023 was another busy summer season for our event security team who were out in force supporting major events across the south coast, including popular festivals, live music events, sporting fixtures and visitor attractions.

This year also saw us officially take over the security contract for Newbury Racecourse, where we are providing year-round security services, including for 31 popular racedays - the largest of which involves mobilising up to 180 security and stewarding staff.

Helping us deliver these services is Matt Paice (pictured middle), who joined the team here at Venture as Operations Manager in March 2023.

Matt has worked in event security, resourcing and operations for more than a decade. He started his career in logistics working for the Ministry of Defence and has also worked as part of the events team at Wembley Stadium, supporting some of the UK’s biggest and most high-profile events.

With a passion for organisation and being someone who thrives under pressure, he enjoys nothing more than seeing a successful event come together.

We caught up with Matt to ask how his first events season with Venture has been.

‘I can’t imagine doing anything else’

When you work in event security you know to always expect the unexpected.

It can be a really busy and stressful role, where you’re often working long hours (and not always in the best of conditions), and your stamina is put to the test, but I can honestly say, I love it! And I can’t imagine doing anything else.

What I’ve enjoyed most about my time with Venture so far has been the teamwork and how close everyone is. We have a great team of security officers, stewards and head office staff, who all pull together to make sure each event runs smoothly.

When you’re working alongside people you know really care about their work and who always have your back, it makes a huge difference. Especially when you’re working so closely together.

The other thing I’ve really enjoyed is the variety of events Venture is involved with. The Summer Solstice at Stonehenge for starters was something really special.

It’s also been great to see Newbury Racecourse coming on board, where we’re also using the latest Halo security tech to support crowd safety and security operations. One of the highlights for me there has been the live concerts. The atmosphere for Olly Murs was electric, while Tom Jones attracted the largest attendance since Covid 19 with a 19,000-capacity crowd!

The summer may now be over but in the events team we’re as busy as ever. Fireworks displays, Christmas light switch-ons and Remembrance Day celebrations, just some of the upcoming events we’re now primed and ready for.
