Salisbury Cathedral in Wiltshire is one of the most recognisable landmarks in England. It houses original copies of the Magna Carta, boasts the tallest church spire in the country and displays what is believed to be the oldest working clock.
The cathedral is open every day of the year and is set within a 60-acre walled close, accessed by a single road and two pedestrian entrances. The cathedral and surrounding close are visited by over 500,000 people a year.
Providing visitors with a sense of security and reassurance
Historically the cathedral has had as issue with anti-social behaviour within the grounds, especially during the summer months. This led to the management team calling on the services of an external security provider, to help manage the issue for the benefit of visitors, staff and local residents.
After experiencing problems with a previous security company, the cathedral decided to change supplier and approached Venture Security to take over, after seeing the team in action at an event.
Since June 2017, Venture has been securing the site every evening and providing SIA Licensed Security Operatives to carry out patrols of the site on foot. The security officers help to tackle any crime and/or anti-social behaviour. Their patrols are carried out on busier evenings between the months of June and November.
The main priority for Venture is public safety and the protection of property. The highly visible presence of trained security operatives helps to minimise any potential disruption, while offering reassurance to visitors and local residents alike.
“I came across Venture when they provided security services for an Autumn craft fair that was hosted at the cathedral. I took down their details at the time and then kept them on file. When I later contacted them and spoke to them about our requirements I was very impressed with what they had to say.
“Venture is a locally-based team and has a fantastic presence in Salisbury, knowing the area really well.
“All the security operatives behave professionally and are fully trained and licensed – something I was dubious about with our previous supplier. They are also polite, welcoming, dressed smartly and easily identifiable, which provides visitors with a sense of security and reassurance.
“Venture as a company is also very easy to work with and that’s due to their fantastic communication. They will send across updates and reports on any incidents that take place and I never have to chase for anything. They are very proactive and always do what they say they will. We have established a great rapport and I am very happy with the services they provide.”
Choosing a security provider is an important decision for any business to make. When you’re placing the safety of your premises, equipment and staff in someone else’s hands, you need to know it is a firm you can trust. The last thing you want is to be won over by promises that are never delivered on.
