Description
The Security Officer qualification is the recognised entry route for anyone looking to work as a Security Guard within the private security industry. This course gives you the knowledge and practical skills needed to work safely and professionally across a range of security environments, including commercial premises, retail, construction sites, warehouses, corporate buildings and other public or private facilities.
Throughout the course learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of:
- The role and responsibilities of a Security Officer
- Legal responsibilities and professional standards
- Communication and customer service
- Security patrols and protecting premises
- Access and egress control
- Search procedures
- Identifying and responding to security risks
- Incident and emergency response
- Reporting and recording incidents
- Terror threat awareness
- Working effectively with colleagues and emergency services
Successful learners will achieve the Highfield Level 2 Award for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry, alongside their Emergency First Aid at Work certification, allowing them to apply for an SIA Security Guard licence, subject to meeting the SIA's other licensing requirements.

Prerequisites
Before booking this course, learners must ensure they meet the following entry requirements:
- Be 18 years of age or over.
- Complete all mandatory pre-course self-study before attending.
- Be able to communicate effectively in English, including reading, writing and speaking.
- Bring acceptable photographic identification and any documentation required by the training provider.
- Be physically able to safely participate in the practical activities and assessments.
No previous security experience or qualifications are required.
Assessment
Your qualification includes a combination of knowledge-based and practical assessments. You’ll be given opportunities to practise throughout the course, with guidance from your trainer to help you prepare for each assessment. You will need access to a smartphone, tablet or laptop with a reliable internet connection to complete the required pre-learning and course examination.
