A medieval cathedral city, in the English county of Wiltshire, Salisbury is known for its historic streets and architecture and was once named one of the world’s Top 10 Cities by Lonely Planet. In peak shopping season, Salisbury attracts more than 40,000 visitors who (among other attractions) flock to the city’s twice-weekly market. A popular retail outlet, run by the Council, Salisbury market comprises of around 90 stalls offering hot food, farm produce and other local goods.

Prior to appointing Venture Security, Salisbury Council had encountered anti-social activity in the City Centre, including alcohol consumption, excessive noise and intimidating behaviour. As a result, the Council implemented an order banning public drinking and sought out a security specialist capable of enforcing the new rule.

Salisbury Council’s security requirements included:

• Mobile patrols on the city’s streets seven days a week
• Extra security on market days and during seasonal events
• Fully licenced officers, who are trained to diffuse conflict
• A uniformed patrol force, equipped with body cameras 

Following a competitive tender process, Salisbury Council appointed Venture to deliver the city’s new security patrols and safeguard the wellbeing of its visitors and residents. In force since 2013, uniformed operatives conduct daily patrols of Salisbury’s streets, providing a security presence to diffuse anti-social behaviour in the community.

Security services provided by Venture for Salisbury Council include:

• City Centre Security Officers patrolling between 10:00-18:00, seven days a week
• Every patrol officer is fully licensed, trained to deal with conflict, and proficient in mental health first aid
• Patrols are smartly dressed in body-cam equipped uniform, providing a visible security presence that reassures the public and deters anti-social behaviour
• Event security services – including the Carnival and Christmas light switch-on

• Venture’s patrols had an immediate and positive impact for Salisbury, with a dramatic reduction in anti-social incidents
• Salisbury’s streets are patrolled daily and additional security is provided by Venture for seasonal events
• Promoting strong links and a collaborative approach, Venture’s officers submit an electronic report at the end of each shift and regularly liaise with the local police, council and other stakeholders
• Bringing even greater benefits, Venture Security was one of the first companies in Hampshire to be accredited under the Community Safety Accreditation Scheme (CSAS) for its city centre security, meaning security officers have low-level police powers and are able to assist even further
