The Roman Baths protected by Venture Security

The Roman Baths has been recognised with a trio of tourism awards, with the efforts of our own dedicated security team being singled out for praise by the judges.

One of the finest historic sites in Northern Europe, The Roman Baths is a unique site that attracts more than a million visitors each year. From a guarding perspective, it is a complex, high‑footfall environment where safety, heritage protection and customer service need to go hand-in-hand.

Our team of security officers support this by delivering a calm, reassuring presence across the site, ensuring visitors feel welcomed and safe from the moment they arrive to the moment they leave.

The role of security in providing an outstanding visitor experience

The historic attraction recently picked up Gold in the category of World Heritage Centre, along with two Silver awards for Large Visitor Attraction and International Tourism, at the Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards.

The judges’ feedback highlighted not only the quality and cleanliness of the site but the professionalism and helpfulness of the security team, including the strong first impression they presented and their attention to detail.

Security Praised

Among the feedback received was praise for one particular officer, Dave, and an interaction he had with a visitor. Dave not only provided clear guidance for a visitor seeking directions but also recognised the visitor when they returned the following day and immediately jumped into action to again help them.

This simple but thoughtful interaction made a powerful impression being exactly the kind of moment that can shape a visitor’s perception of an entire site.

Paul Howe, Venture Security Manager Director said: “Dave’s interaction is a perfect example of what exceptional security looks like. It’s not just about keeping people safe; it’s about creating an environment where visitors feel supported, recognised and respected.

At Venture, we set the bar high because public‑facing roles demand both strong security expertise and outstanding customer service. Officers need to be polite, approachable and clear communicators, managing any and all situations they may be presented with. Dave demonstrated all of these things, and we’re incredibly proud of him and the standard our whole security team at The Roman Baths continue to meet.”

At a heritage site as significant as The Roman Baths, security must be highly effective without being overbearing, gently aiding a smooth visitor experience.

Our officers work hard to protect the site’s assets, while managing visitor flow and supporting the wider operations team, all while maintaining a warm, approachable presence.

The awards judges noted the strong presentation of the site and the helpfulness of the security team, recognition that reinforces how essential a well‑run security operation is to the overall visitor experience.

We were also delighted to receive these words of praise from The Roman Baths team.

Simon Addison, Chief Operating Officer for Heritage Services, said: “It’s always easy for the plaudits to go to the staff who more directly deliver the visitor experience, but the awards feedback highlights just how important it is for every part of our operation to work well and how all parts come together to create the overall experience.

“Thank you to Venture for all that you do. The high level of customer experience we are providing is exactly what we’re striving to achieve through the work of our operations and security team.”

We’re very proud to have contributed to The Roman Bath’s latest award-winning achievements and remain committed to ensuring that every visitor’s experience is based around safety, professionalism and a warm welcome.

As The Roman Baths continues to attract global attention, our security team remains committed to upholding the standards that make The Roman Baths one of the most celebrated heritage attractions in the UK.
